My name is Kristen and I am a cancer survivor. I was diagnosed at 21 years old with Burkitt’s Lymphoma. Butkitt’s lymphoma is a type of Non-Hodgkin, aggressive cancer. I had just returned from the best time of my life spending a semester abroad and was diagnosed only three weeks after returning home to California. I spent the next 6 months in and out of the hospital receiving 8 rounds of chemotherapy. During treatment I took two online classes to stay on track in school. It wasn’t easy at times but I was determined to graduate with my class. The day I had my last PET Scan, I left my doctor’s office and headed back to Washington to finish my senior year at Washington State University. I was only one month out of treatment, completely bald, and pretty scared to just dive back into being on my own, going to school, and not freaking out about anything abnormal going on with me. I somehow managed though, and I am now a college graduate and learning how to deal with life after cancer as a young adult.
